The Ultimate Plant Care Guide: Helping Your New Plant Thrive
Bringing home a new plant is always exciting, but giving it the right care from day one is key to long-term success. At AroidzOasis, we want to ensure your new green companion adjusts well to its new environment. Here’s a quick and friendly guide to help your plant settle in and thrive.
Post-Delivery Acclimation
Once your plant arrives, resist the urge to repot it right away. Leave it in the original container for at least two weeks. This gives it time to adjust to your home’s unique conditions. Remove any packing materials and place the plant near a window with bright, indirect light or under a grow light. A little leaf discoloration is normal—it’s just part of the transition process. Water only if the soil mix feels dry when it arrives.
Watering Tips
There’s no one-size-fits-all schedule when it comes to watering. Instead, check the soil and only water when it’s dry. Many of our rare plants are sensitive to overwatering and prone to root rot. For extra peace of mind, we highly recommend using a self-watering pot to help regulate moisture levels.
Light Requirements
Your plant will thrive in bright, indirect light. If your new plant has variegated leaves, it’ll need a bit more light to maintain those beautiful patterns. A grow light can be a great supplement, especially in low-light homes.
Humidity Matters
Our plants are gradually acclimated to lower humidity before shipping, but they’ll still benefit from a more humid environment. Aim for at least 50% humidity for optimal growth. A small humidifier or a well-placed humidity tray can make all the difference.
The Best Substrate for Success
To keep your plant happy, use a chunky aroid mix that allows for good airflow and drainage. We recommend a blend of:
- Coco coir
- Worm castings
- Perlite
- Orchid mix
This mix mimics the natural habitat of aroids and supports healthy root development. For some varieties like philodendrons and monsteras, leca or pon also work well.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or new to the plant world, following these tips will help your plant settle in and flourish. Happy growing!
